Details of Prince's Project

If you look in the case you can see many details of this project--boxes with pictures in files, notebooks filled with minutae. The lives of all these servicemen and women. It was so overwhelming to look at. A memorial created by one individual. I was reminded of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC with the names of the fallen carved in marble. But this project is an ongoing memorial since it changes daily. It is as if she is overtaken by this.

Here you get a sense of the care she took in making these portraits. From afar, looking at the entire wall, they are so alike--dead servicemen and women. Yet, they are individuals and she captures their particular characteristics in these small sketches. She reports that she draws with the hardest lead she can find.
